Each project below records the measured condition of the water body when Alpha Environmental Solutions was called in, the work carried out, and the measured condition afterwards. Every one was delivered by our own directly employed teams using our own equipment, with documented water-quality results and, where applicable, environmental clearance from Dubai Municipality — Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DM‑DECCA).

Lake Management

The challenge

When Alpha Environmental Solutions took over management in 2021, the community lakes at this residential and commercial project were in poor ecological condition. The water suffered persistent algae blooms and an unhealthy fish population, with water clarity of only 30 cm (Secchi depth). Foul odours rose from accumulated bottom sludge, and invasive aquatic weeds had established across the water body.

What we did

Alpha implemented an integrated lake management plan covering scheduled water-quality monitoring, biological and mechanical algae control, aeration and circulation management, sludge and nutrient control, and aquatic-weed management — all delivered under a single maintenance contract.

The outcome

By 2025 the lakes had been fully restored. Algae is under complete control, water clarity has increased from 30 cm to 120 cm, and the fish population is healthy and stable. Odours have been eliminated and the aquatic weeds are fully controlled. The lake also secured an Environmental Clearance Certificate from DM‑DECCA.

Sludge Removal from a Golf Course Irrigation Lake

The challenge

The irrigation lake at this golf course had accumulated a sludge layer measuring 55 cm. The sediment drove recurring algae blooms through internal nutrient loading and produced persistent odours from the lake bed. Critically, the volume of sludge had reduced the lake’s holding capacity — a serious constraint during the peak summer months, when irrigation demand is at its highest.

What we did

Alpha extracted the accumulated sediment using suction dredging and mechanical methods, without draining the water body or interrupting irrigation. The extracted material was dewatered in geotextile tubes on site and disposed of through licensed channels.

The outcome

A total of 584 cubic metres of sludge was removed and disposed of, cutting the sludge layer from 55 cm to 3 cm. With the internal nutrient load reduced, algae blooms decreased and the odours from the bottom sludge were eliminated. Removing the sludge restored the lake’s holding capacity, allowing it to store the irrigation water needed through the demanding summer months.

Lake Aeration

The challenge

This community lake suffered algae blooms and low water clarity, with no dissolved oxygen at the bottom. Anaerobic bacteria decomposing the bottom sludge released nutrients back into the water — internal loading — and generated odours. Dissolved oxygen sat below the DM‑DECCA minimum of 5 ppm, leaving the lake non-compliant with regulations.

What we did

Alpha designed, supplied and installed a bottom aeration system sized for the lake, delivered as part of a full lake management plan and supported by an ongoing maintenance contract.

The outcome

The lake achieved complete algae control and high water clarity, and the odours were eliminated. Dissolved oxygen was raised above 5 ppm throughout the water column, bringing the lake into full compliance with DM‑DECCA regulations. The lake subsequently secured its Environmental Clearance Certificate.

The challenge

The swim-zone beach and seabed at this beachfront property suffered extensive filamentous algae growth. It generated repeated complaints from residents and degraded water quality as the dead algae decomposed in the swim zone.

What we did

Alpha carried out specialised marine algae cleaning of the swim zone, clearing both the beach and the seabed, with follow-up programmes addressing the nutrient drivers behind the growth rather than only removing the visible algae.

The outcome

The filamentous algae problem was resolved completely, with the swim zone cleared in ten days. The seabed was cleared of algae, and marine water quality improved to meet the Dubai Municipality regulations set for marine water. The resident complaints stopped.
